Maxto M3 Bluetooth Helm Headset Intercom Video recorder…

I previously owned a Sena SF2 as an intercom/speakers for my motorcycle rides.

The most important thing I didn’t like about the SF2 was the battery! When you aren’t riding you need to charge the bloody thing because else the Sena SF2 is out of juice when you want to go for an bike ride.
I also wanted to film my trips, so I started to look for an all in one solution to combine the bluetooth headset an camera.
As my experience with the Sena SF2 unit wasn’t that great I didn’t opt for the Sena 10C pro.
After an search on Aliexpress I found the Maxto M3 bluetooth video headset and the nice thing, it is a third of the price of the Sena 10c pro unit.

Mounting of the unit is the same as the Sena units => There are two options:
- Mount the base using the (screw)clip
- Mount the base with adhesive tape
I went for option 2, which works well. The unit stays attached to the helmet and one can control the options (volume up/down, voice command, start/stop recording, control radio) well.
The audio functions and quality of these two units (Sena SF2 & Maxto M3) are imho the same. The Sena SF2 has “HD” speakers which should give an better sound quality (and probably do), but wind noise and the motorcycle noise will make you don’t notice anything of HD speakers. And to sit in the livingroom on the couch with my helmet is an other thing 😉 . This doesn’t mean that the sound quality of the Maxto M3 headset is bad, because it isn’t.
We own two of these units (Maxto M3) and use them with an iPhone 13 and an Samsung S10. Both phones connect seamlessly via bluetooth (for the audio) and Wi-Fi (to download video clips). Also the bluetooth connection between the two Maxto M3 units itself is seamless and has an relative big range (approximately 1 km in open view). The only noticeable downside is when the connection between the two Maxto M3 units fails it won’t reconnect by it self. The workaround for the disconnect issue is the just use the Maxto M3 units as an headset via your phone or use Whatsapp, Teamspeak, Skype or what ever voice solution you prefer.
The camera quality of the Maxto M3 is imho quite OK.
Here’s an video clip:
Also during nighttime the recordings are quite usable:
The battery of the Maxto M3 is simply amazing! Using the Maxto M3 for video recording and audio (playing audio from phone via bluetooth) the battery lasts approximately 7 hours. Compared to the Sena SF2 this is so much better! And the best thing is, that the battery of the Maxto M3 keeps it charge when the unit is not in use (which was my irritation with the Sena SF2 unit).
